TL:DR - Update the Repair.exe file automatically the same way you update almost every other file (automatically).
For example, while trying (unsuccessfully) for the last 4+ hours to get my launchers to install the latest Galatea patches I ran the Repair.exe file (which was also unsuccessful).
However, upon running the file it informed me that there was a newer version of it available and would I like to update it. Mighty fine idea says I so of course I click "yes". The fact that it couldn't even successfully update itself wasn't the only bad part.
The bad part was when I looked in the EVE folder and noticed that the Repair.exe file was dated August 2013 !
I went through my other EVE folders and sure enough, most of them were also dated 2013 (except for one folder that I'd had to mess with because of launcher issues - it had a somewhat newer version of the file).
It occurred to me, why isn't this file being automatically updated whenever a newer version is available just like (most of) the other files ? It seems only logical (RIP) !
In fact the Repair.exe seems to have been modified just yesterday (25 August 2015) and again today (26 August 2015) however unless you actually run it, it won't update. Which means when you actually do need to run the first thing you need to do is go through the BS of updating it (and hoping it works) and then running it (and hoping it works).
(Yes I'm ranting. It may or may not have to do with spending the last 4 1/2 hours trying to install a simple patch that should have been done and dusted in 30 seconds like they normally do.)

Actually both of my PCs are high end, custom built gaming machines, currently running Win10 and all fully updated.
Which would have absolutely nothing to do with the error message I keep getting that states the launcher can't reach "http://cdn1.eveonline.com/958007/RepairData_958007.dat"
This is also not the first time I (or many others) have had with patches not working. I've had similar issues in the past on different computers running different versions of Windows (not that that has anything to do with the Launcher or Repair.exe being unable to update themselves either). I've also experienced issues while trying to do updates on different computers, in different countries, on different ISPs so no, it has SFA to do with my machines.
(BTW - I've only been playing 6 accounts for about 6 years now so yeah, I've been around for awhile as well.) |

All of those anecdote are fun but since other people are actaully able to patch their installs, it means it's not the server since if they were down, nobody could reach them and not the launcher either because it would fail to update for everyone as well.
Aye, which is a point I brought up in the thread that is actually about the Launcher and Update issues. In previous cases it came down to some ISPs having made changes that caused routing problems. As a result people in some parts of the world couldn't get the updates while people in other places never noticed any issues at all. Another case involved some major ISPs changing something that resulted in EVE files being treated the same as FTP files which those ISPs had controls/limits on. Once in awhile the problem is something that has nothing to do with EVE or whatever machine/OS you have, like when a major fibre cable was cut and large hunks of SE Asia and other areas were cut off from Europe for a short while (I think that also happened on 2 other occasions).
However in this case CCP has (in that other thread) acknowledged there is a problem with the "http://cdn1.eveonline.com" site. and they've been working on trying to fix it. |
